Federal Express (FedEx) flies a large fleet of freighter aircraft, including many converted former passenger jets. Among the converted airliners are seventy Airbus A310 aircraft: 49 A310-200s and 21 A310-300s. Federal Express is specialised in delivering packages and freight. It was founded in 1971 and started operations in 1973 with a number of small Dassault Falcon 20 bizjets in cargo configuration. Today FedEx flies an enormous fleets of Boeing 727s, DC-10s, MD-11s, A300s and A310s.

The Airbus A310 on the photograph is approaching Frankfurt Rhein/Main Airport in the early evening. This particular aircraft (N801FD) was delivered to Pan Am in 1990 and later flew for Delta Air Lines, Air India and Merpati Nusantara Airlines in Indonesia. In October 2000 it became part of the FedEx-fleet.
