Airbus A310 - Martinair

Airbus Industrie delivered one A310 with main deck cargo door new from the factory. This Convertible A310-200C (PH-MCB) started its operational life with the Dutch charter airline Martinair. Thanks to this door (3.58m x 2.57m = 141 in x 101 in) the aircraft could be fully converted between all-passenger and all-cargo configurations. The aircraft had a strengthened main deck floor fitted with a powered handling system.

The PH-MCB is now in the fleet of air cargo courier FedEx (Federal Express) and has been converted to full freighter configuration. Later other A310s were modified to get a cargo door too.

Martinair also operated an all-passenger Airbus A310 on holiday flights. The two aircraft were in service with the airline from 1984 to 1995. Both were sold to Federal Express.

Martinair is one of the oldest holiday charter airlines. The airline was founded in May 1958 as Martin's Air Charter by Martin Schröder. The present name was adopted in 1971. Today the airline offers holiday charters, scheduled services and extensive cargo operations. On the picture PH-MCB is taking off from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Martinair's homebase.
