Boeing 767-200 - US Airways

US Airways is one of the major airlines in the USA and the fleet includes ten Boeing 767-200ER aircraft from a total of twelve delivered by Boeing.

The airline is the result of a long list of airline mergers. It started airmail services in 1939 as All American Aviation and began passenger services in 1949 after changing its name to All American Airways. In 1953 the name was changed to Allegheny Airlines. In 1968 the airline merged with Lake Central Airlines. In 1972 Allegheny acquired Mohawk Airlines and in 1979 Allegheny changed its name to USAir. In 1987 Pacific Southwest Airlines and Piedmont Airlines become part of the USAir Group. Piedmont brought in USAir's first widebody jets, 767-200ERs. USAir changed its name to US Airways in 1997 and merged with America West Airlines in 2005.

The Boeing 767 on the picture above wears the new colour scheme, adopted after the merger with America West. The picture below shows a 767 in the old standard colours. Both pictures are taken at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
