McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 - Ecuatoriana

Among the most beautifully painted DC-10s belongs this example of Ecuatoriana Airlines from Ecuador. Ecuatoriana de Aviacion began operations in 1956 and became Ecuador's flag carrier in 1974. The airline started operating a single DC-10 in 1983.

In 1995 the airline was almost bankrupt, but was taken over by the Brazilian airline VASP. The aircraft were subsequently painted in a much less striking livery based on the colours of VASP. Five years later VASP pulled out of the airline. The remaining activities were taken over by LAN Chile.

The picture shows the Ecuatoriana DC-10 in its striking original colours approaching Miami International Airport.
